OFFICERS & COMMITTEES

PRESIDENT 

In charge of planning and running meetings, delegating responsibilities to other executive officers, diligently communicating with all the committees, officers, and members within AMSA as well as with other UNLV organizations, organizing and planning important events, coordinating various activities on- and off-campus, and other miscellaneous responsibilities.

VICE PRESIDENT 

Participate in the same activities as the President, assist the President in completing tasks, step in when the President is unavailable, initiate tasks, events, and ideas for AMSA, as well as any other miscellaneous responsibilities, and maintain an open line of communication between all members, committees, and AMSA officers.

SECRETARY

Record each member’s semester hours, update the semester hour spreadsheet on AMSA’s website, file attendance sheets from meetings and events, communicate and coordinate with the Sergeant-at-Arms, officers, and committees to update service events and hours in a timely manner, maintain a current list of active members, keep a written record of general membership and executive meetings, and participate in other responsibilities as necessary throughout the year.

SERGEANT-AT-ARMS

Enforce AMSA policies and regulations to preserve order, ensure that all activities taken by the chapter are in accordance with the constitution bylaws, see to it that all members are given the chance to speak at general membership meetings, notify members of inactive status, mediate internal issues between members and officers, and communicate with all members, committees, and AMSA officers in a professional and respectful manner.

TREASURER

Manage the finances and daily expenditures of AMSA, create and present a budget and tentative schedule of fundraising activities, communicate with the fundraising committee, provide monthly reports to the President or Vice President detailing the activities of the fundraising committee, and communicate with all members, committees, and officers in a professional and respectful manner.

HISTORIAN

Document and capture all of the memories that AMSA has with its members, arrange an officer photoshoot prior to the beginning of the semester, manage AMSA's social media platforms, coordinate with the committees to promote new events, volunteer and research opportunities, internships, and medical advancements, and create monthly recaps of AMSA events.

PHYSICIAN SHADOWING COMMITTEE 

Provide opportunities for students to observe doctor-patient interactions in a clinical setting, set up medical school tours and orientations, interview potential physician shadowees for assignment to physician shadowing opportunities, ensure that complete details are provided and there is a designated Officer In Charge for each scheduled event, send an attendance sheet for each scheduled event to the Secretary in a timely manner upon conclusion of the event, and communicate with members and other AMSA officers in a respectable manner.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE 

Organize events for members that will aid in preparing for professional school applications, such as Academic Success Center workshops, Kaplan events, research opportunities, and other academic opportunities, provide members with mentorship, guidance, and useful resources that will help them navigate through their respective career interests, ensure that complete details are provided and an Officer in Charge is designated for all scheduled events, send event attendance sheets to the Secretary in a timely manner, and provide an open line of communication to members and other officers.

FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE

Organize monthly events to help raise money for local charities in order to give back to the Las Vegas community and raise funds for AMSA UNLV, diligently work with the Treasurer, other AMSA officers, and other committees when planning collaborative events, ensure reports and funds from events are provided to the Treasurer in a timely manner, promptly send attendance sheets for scheduled events to the Secretary upon conclusion of the event, and communicate with all members, committees, and officers in a professional manner.

HUMANITARIAN COMMITTEE 

Responsible for finding, planning, and organizing volunteer opportunities for AMSA, sending e-mail confirmations to members, ensuring that members are properly informed of the details and responsibilities of an event, designating an Officer in Charge for each scheduled event, and sending an attendance sheet for each scheduled event to the Secretary promptly after conclusion of the event. The committee must oversee the many events scheduled throughout the semester, manage the e-mail account, and communicate with members, other committees, other AMSA officers, and organization partners in a professional manner.

RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE

Responsible for advertising AMSA on social media and campus events, planning and conducting group interviews to carefully recruit prospective members, contacting and informing new recruits about the rules and requirements to be an AMSA member. The committee must manage the recruitment email, oversee application responses, work closely with the historian to advertise AMSA on social media, assist new members with any questions regarding AMSA and their membership, notify the appropriate officers of the membership status of new members, establish a friendly environment for new members, and communicate with all members, committees, and officers in a respectful manner.

WELLNESS COMMITTEE

Responsible for organizing and hosting social, awareness, and wellness events focusing on the mental and physical well-being of AMSA members. The committee must provide mental health resources to the members, promote the development of healthy physical and mental habits, coordinate with the historian to post healthy recipes and at-home-workouts on social media, manage the Wellness email, ensure that complete details are provided and an Officer in Charge is designated for all scheduled events, send event attendance sheets to the Secretary in a timely manner, and provide an open line of communication to all members, other committees, and AMSA officers.
